MOSTAR, MAY 31 /SRNA/ - The celebration of Holy Trinity Day in Mostar today gathered a large number of Orthodox residents of Mostar and believers from all over Herzegovina to prayerfully celebrate the patron saint's day of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, together with the clergy and the Metropolitan of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, Dimitrije.
In his sermon, the Metropolitan emphasized the importance of faith and prayer, as well as living in God and Christianity, and that the word of God should be inscribed in people's hearts.
The Bishop pointed out that every person was given life to be honest, honorable, sincere, pious, and faithful, but also to preserve the image of God, which no sin can destroy, because a person can always return to God.
He called on the believers to pray in their churches and participate in church services, so that everyone could be one Church, a community of the Holy Spirit, and one body.
"Each of us will be equally precious before the living and true God," said Metropolitan Dimitrije, thanking the clergy who came from all parts of the world to celebrate Holy Trinity Day in Mostar, as well as the faithful people who arrived from all over Herzegovina.
The construction of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity began in 1863 and lasted 10 years. This magnificent, monumental, and picturesque church was consecrated on St. Luke's Day in 1873. The people of Mostar at that time built the largest and most beautiful Orthodox church in the Balkans.
The church was set on fire on June 15, 1992. After that, it was demolished for almost a month, only to be finally mined and leveled to the ground.
The reconstruction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral began in 2010. The church is being rebuilt stone by stone, because it is a national monument that must look exactly as it once did.
On February 26, 2021, a three-and-a-half-meter-high gilded cross was placed on the bell tower of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Mostar, whereby this place of worship, after almost three decades, once again rose over Mostar in its full glory and beauty.
With the installation of the last of the seven gilded crosses, the rough construction work on this cathedral was completed. It is necessary to finish the interior and the ground floor landscaping, which, unfortunately, is still waiting due to a lack of financial resources.
