MOSTAR, OCTOBER 2 /SRNA/ – The Director of the Secretariat for Displaced Persons and Migration of Republika Srpska, Davor Čordaš, and Deputy Director Gojko Jotić visited today the Bovan family in the Vrapčići settlement of Mostar, whose house was damaged during a storm in early September and toured the reconstruction work, for which the Republika Srpska Government initially approved BAM 15,000.
"The roof has been done excellently; ceiling work is in progress. There is still some work left on one ceiling and one window, so we have agreed with the people from Mostar to finish this together as soon as possible so that the elderly lady and her family can return and live here again soon," said Čordaš.
He added that additional assistance has also been arranged to ensure the house is fully protected.
Gordana, daughter of Mirjana Bovan, thanked everyone from the Republika Srpska Government who came and offered help, emphasizing that her mother is an example of how care is given to elderly and vulnerable returnees, who are not left to fend for themselves.
"In addition to the family they have, institutional help is sometimes needed. The Republika Srpska Office in Mostar responded immediately, and everything that was promised has been done," said Gordana.
She added that she is grateful for Čordaš’s offer to help resolve windows and doors issues, even though they hadn’t asked for that.
"We didn’t want to exaggerate or ask for too much, just the essentials. I’m thankful and touched, because my 85-year-old mother wants to spend the rest of her days here," said Gordana.
Čordaš and Jotić also visited Mirjana Bovan, who is still staying with relatives after being forced to leave her home due to the storm.
Mirjana Bovan expressed hope that she will soon return to her home and thanked everyone involved in the reconstruction.
During the heavy storm that hit Mostar on September 10, the home of the Bovan returnee family was destroyed; it hadn’t even been fully rebuilt since it was damaged during the war.
The immobile elderly woman, Mirjana Bovan, and her family members were left not only without a roof over their heads but also without any belongings. The storm tore off the roof, heavy rain poured inside. Everything was destroyed, from floors to ceilings, along with the furniture. Thanks to a swift intervention with the help of the Government of Republika Srpska, Mirjana Bovan and her family members will soon return to their home.
