BELGRADE, NOVEMBER 29 /SRNA/ - The president of the Alliance of Serbs from the Region, Miodrag Linta, reacted after children were sledding at the site of Serb civilian suffering in Garavice near Bihać, emphasizing that such actions continue to insult the Serb victims of genocide and that Serbia and Republika Srpska should jointly organize and maintain this memorial site.
Linta noted that, according to a local portal, the children’s gathering was organized by a private sports school and attracted a large turnout. He also reminded that more than 12,000 Serb civilians perished at this location.
Such conduct, Linta said, represents a continuation of the humiliation and insult of Serb genocide victims from the time of the NDH /Independent State of Croatia/ in the territory of the Federation of BiH.
“Serbia and Republika Srpska should jointly restore the neglected Garavice memorial site, erect a new monument, and build an Orthodox church in memory of the Serb victims of genocide,” Linta stated.
Linta reminded that the genocide in Garavice near Bihać in the summer of 1941 was part of a project of the planned destruction of the Serb people in the NDH, and that the Ustasha regime in Garavice during July and August of that year committed genocide against Serb civilians from the Bihać district and the surrounding areas of Lika and Kordun.
“A smaller number of civilians from other nations, including Roma and Jews, also perished in Garavice,” Linta added.
