TESLIĆ, NOVEMBER 5 /SRNA/ – The Serbian Educational and Cultural Society /SPKD/ "Prosvjeta" in Teslić held an exhibition this evening of works by students from the seventh cycle of its Zaharija S. Orfelin school of Cyrillic calligraphy.
Belgrade calligrapher Danica Veselinović, who led the cycle, said she was delighted with the students' progress and that the audience had been given such a fine introduction to the art of beautiful writing.
"We put the emphasis on studying medieval Cyrillic scripts, so that the focus would be on our history, our tradition and the Cyrillic alphabet, which is part of our identity," Veselinović told reporters.
She said calligraphy was both a craft and an art, and all it took to master it was love.
Sixteen-year-old Jana Barić has attended the school since it was founded. What she learned there helped her win third place in last year's Republika Srpska competition "Srce piše ćirilicom" /The Heart Writes in Cyrillic/.
Aleksa Kasapović, president of Prosvjeta in Teslić, announced the start of the eighth cycle of the school. It is named after Zaharija Orfelin, author of the first calligraphy primer for the Serbian Cyrillic script.
He said he was pleased the school had been well received, noting that its students' works had also been exhibited at other institutions in Republika Srpska and Serbia.
