THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN NEW YORK IS TO REQUEST THAT SCHMIDT STEP DOWN

BELGRADE, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ - Former Serbian Ambassador to the UN Branko Branković told SRNA that nothing better could have been expected than for Russia to present the Republika Srpska's Report on the situation in BiH at tomorrow's UN Security Council session, stressing that the most important thing is to request that Christian Schmidt step down.

"It would be very good if the Russian position were supported by a larger number of Security Council members, seven or eight of the ten non-permanent ones. That would be quite striking at the session itself. As for the Europeans, I don't expect anything from them. Unfortunately, that's just how it is," Branković said.

Branković emphasized that it is important for the Russians, who will certainly represent Republika Srpska, to be well-prepared with strong arguments and clearly present everything that is happening in BiH.

He pointed out that it is necessary to insist on the fact that Schmidt is in BiH without authorization, as he was not appointed by the UN Security Council.

"One thing is evident, we are the ones demanding it, but the question is whether the others, primarily those from Europe who have the right of veto, will allow it," Branković said.

Therefore, he added, it's hard to imagine that the permanent members of the Security Council could veto something that doesn't even exist as a formal decision.

"However, if a decision were proposed demanding that he leave BiH and stating that he has no business here, such a decision could be vetoed," he emphasized.

He added that the most important thing is to present the real situation and to request that Schmidt step down, provided that the other four permanent members of the Security Council do not exercise their veto.

"The first step, above all, would be to chase Schmidt out of here," Branković said.

He emphasized that the significance of Russia presenting the Republika Srpska's Report on the situation in BiH lies in the fact that, as a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia will be able to present both what many know and what many do not.

He believes that the countries supporting Schmidt will take incomparably harsher positions, naturally accompanied by lies, because they don't know what to do.
