SARAJEVO, NOVEMBER 3 /SRNA/ – Irena Hadžiabdić, a member of the Central Election Commission /CEC/ of BiH, has said today in Sarajevo that fines totalling BAM 1,350,000 had been imposed during the election campaign for various violations.
Hadžiabdić noted that 165 complaints had been filed solely over the misuse of public funds, for which eight sanctions have been imposed so far, adding that this work would continue.
"We are severely limited by the provisions of the Electoral Law. I will cite just two examples. When it comes to hate speech, there were only 31 complaints, and just one instance of hate speech that we could classify as falling under the provisions of the Electoral Law," Hadžiabdić said at a press conference following a session at which the BiH October 4 general elections results were certified.
She says that most of the sanctions concerned holders of executive positions and elected officials only when they are candidates.
