BRČKO, JUNE 12 /SRNA/ – Brčko must be part of the Sarajevo–Belgrade highway route, said the Mayor of Brčko District Siniša Milić, expressing hope that special attention will be given to the adoption of a new spatial plan in the district.
Milić emphasized the importance of highways passing through Brčko, connecting it with the Tuzla Canton on one side and Banja Luka, that is, the western part of Republika Srpska, on the other, as this would create the conditions for better utilization of the capacities of the Brčko Port and for boosting overall investment interest in the district.
"If Brčko is left out of the highway routes, then the national rights of Serbs, Bosniaks, and Croats, as well as all others living here, will truly be endangered. All of us who failed to reach an agreement will be to blame," Milić warned.
He stressed that Brčko supports the connection between Sarajevo and Belgrade via other sections, provided that this does not jeopardize the district's position within the highway network.
According to him, Brčko must not be bypassed when planning and constructing the future Sarajevo-Belgrade highway.
"Speculation about the highway route will continue until the district's spatial plan is adopted, which should also include other important infrastructure facilities, such as the location of a new bridge and border crossing with Croatia and the EU, or the route of the Northern Gas Interconnection pipeline," Milić explained.
