ZUEV: TERRORISM INCREASINGLY MOVING INTO CYBERSPACE

MOSCOW, JULY 18 /SRNA/ – Terrorism is increasingly spreading into cyberspace, which facilitates the recruitment and financing of terrorist groups, acting UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Alexander Zuev said.

"Terrorism is undergoing a major transformation, moving into cyberspace and recruiting supporters of terrorist organizations via the internet is becoming increasingly common and easier," Zuev said in an interview with TASS.

He said the situation today is completely different from what it was more than 30 years ago, when, as he noted, terrorists received suitcases full of cash.

"Today, there is no longer any need for that because cyberspace exists, where activities can be carried out actively and efficiently," Zuev said.

He announced a joint project between the United Nations and Russia's Federal Financial Monitoring Service aimed at combating money laundering, the misuse of cryptocurrencies and data encryption.
