XI CALLS FOR STRONGER NATIONAL SECURITY SYSTEM

BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 29 /SRNA/ - A message from Chinese President Xi Jinping calling for further strengthening of the national security system and capabilities was conveyed at a conference on building a safer China held in Beijing today.

Xi, who recently issued the instructions, said it was necessary to improve public security governance, refine the system of social governance and prevent and address various risks.

"Continuous efforts are needed to make the country safer, society more orderly, governance more effective and citizens more satisfied, and to ensure steady and long-term progress in China's modernization by building a safer China at a higher level," said Xi, who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission.

He said the country should continue on its new path guided by the thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, China Media Group reported.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China /CPC/, said significant achievements had been made since the 18th CPC National Congress and that China had become one of the safest countries in the world.

According to Xi, it is necessary to firmly implement the comprehensive concept of national security, consistently uphold and strengthen the overall leadership of the Communist Party and coordinate development and security.

"We attach equal importance to punishment and prevention, as well as to addressing both problems and their root causes, strengthening support for the rule of law and enhancing security governance through science and technology," Xi said.

Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Central Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, said Xi's instructions had laid out a blueprint and pointed the way forward for building a safer China.

Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee headed by Xi Jinping, China's achievements in building a safer country have gained broad international recognition, while security has become a prominent feature of Chinese governance, China Media Group reported.
