NAGOYA, SEPTEMBER 18 /SRNA–Reuters/ - The South Korean men's hockey team was mistakenly greeted with the North Korean national anthem by the organisers ahead of their match against Bangladesh at the Asian Games.
The South Korean hockey players stood lined up before the start of the match, looking at each other in disbelief as the anthem played at the Green Stadium in Gifu, Japan, footage from the live television broadcast showed. The video quickly spread on social media.
The stadium announcer immediately apologised for the mistake.
"We are truly sorry, terribly sorry. For the Republic of Korea, we played the wrong song," he said.
The North Korean national anthem is banned in South Korea, along with other symbols associated with its wartime adversary.
