BIJELJINA, NOVEMBER 3 /SRNA/ – The world's first underground electric railway line was opened in London on November 4, 1890.
The need for an underground railway became increasingly apparent as London began experiencing severe traffic congestion.
As early as the first half of the 19th century, pedestrian and horse-drawn carriage traffic was becoming congested in central London streets.
The London Underground Tunnel project marked the beginning of a series of extensions that eventually led to the development of the underground electric railway.
The project was the work of French engineer Marc Isambard Brunel, who lived in the United Kingdom.
The world's first passenger railway line was also built in England, in 1825, connecting the towns of Stockton and Darlington.
