BEIJING, AUGUST 20 /SRNA/ - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China and South Korea should demonstrate strategic vision and ensure the sound, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
During yesterday's meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, he expressed hope that South Korea, guided by its fundamental interests, would pursue an independent foreign policy while developing relations with other countries without confrontation.
Wang noted that since the end of last year, the top leaders of the two countries had successfully exchanged visits and reached important consensus on the future development of China-South Korea relations, providing strategic guidance for bilateral ties, China Media Group reported.
Marking the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he said that China was ready to work with South Korea to take their strategic partnership and cooperation to a new level.
Wang said that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges.
"The two countries should continue to promote exchanges in areas such as youth, the media, sports, think tanks and local governments, while working to further strengthen public support and the social foundation for the development of bilateral relations," said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
