VIVAS: INCIDENT IN CEUTA ATTACK ON SPAIN’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY

MADRID, AUGUST 12 /SRNA/ – The Spanish Ministry of Defence does not find the mass influx of illegal migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta a migration crisis but an attack on Spain’s territorial integrity, Ceuta Mayor Juan Jesús Vivas said.

“Defence Minister Margarita Robles agreed with us that what happened in Ceuta on July 30 was not a migration crisis, but an attack on Spain’s territorial integrity,” Vivas told the press.

He added that the ministry would deploy as many resources as necessary, without any restrictions, to guarantee the security of the Spanish-Moroccan border.

Asked whether a curfew would be introduced in the city, Vivas said he had no information about this but advised Ceuta residents to exercise caution.

“We have 10,000 people in Ceuta who appeared in a single day, and we do not know who they are or what they are like,” Vivas warned.

At the end of July, Ceuta faced a massive wave of illegal migration from Morocco. Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said that around 72,000 migrants had entered Spain from Morocco, while around 70,000 had already returned.
