BRUSSELS, OCTOBER 7 /SRNA/ - Austrian Member of the European Parliament Harald Vilimsky criticized European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU's ruling elite for boasting about false results amid a sharp rise in prices, difficulties faced by businesses and economic problems affecting citizens, stressing that even the "Titanic" was on a safer course than the Union.

"Kisses and wine for von der Leyen - while ordinary people struggle to make ends meet, the EU leadership is busy patting themselves on the back," Vilimsky said in an address to Parliament.

He recalled that fuel, food and rents have risen sharply in the EU, as have levies on small businesses, while officials in Brussels congratulate one another on their success.

"Europe urgently needs a change of course because, at this rate, even the Titanic was on a safer course," concluded Vilimsky, who is a member of the Patriots for Europe parliamentary group.

In a post on X yesterday, Vilimsky congratulated President Milorad Dodik on the SNSD's victory in the elections in BiH held on Sunday, October 4, adding that "in democracies, the people decide".

The Patriots for Europe, the European Parliament's third-largest group with 85 MEPs, opposes further centralization of the EU and advocates giving priority to national interests regarding borders, economic stability and citizens' interests.
