WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 20 /SRNA/ – Ukraine should not be a member of NATO, United States Vice President James David Vance stated.

"As far as I know, we do not have a formal alliance with Ukraine. They are not a NATO member state, and I do not think they should be in the Alliance," Vance told US media.

Vance said that Ukraine sometimes acts contrary to US interests.

"They are partners in certain areas, but our interests diverge from time to time," Vance said.

He noted that Kyiv should halt attacks on Russian oil refineries that are driving up energy prices in the United States, Sputnik reported.

"We will continue to work with them on certain issues, but I believe they should stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure," Vance concluded.

US President Donald Trump had previously strongly criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over attacks on Russian oil refineries, stating that Kyiv was causing serious damage to global diesel markets, including the US one.

Trump said that Ukraine needed a new leader who could reach an agreement with Russia and that it was time for Zelensky to find someone else to lead negotiations on resolving the situation.
