BARCELONA, OCTOBER 4 /SRNA-Reuters/ - At least two people have been killed and one person is missing following heavy rains and floods in the Spanish region of Catalonia, authorities said.
A man was killed when a wall collapsed in Tordera, north of Barcelona, while another person died in Montornès del Vallès.
Emergency services are searching for the missing person in Pineda de Mar, 50 kilometres north of Barcelona.
Catalan authorities issued a red alert and urged people to remain indoors from 20:00 yesterday until 14:00 today, as a mini-hurricane and heavier rainfall could hit the region.
Homes were flooded and cars were left submerged in Bellvitge and Cornellà, near Barcelona. Ducks were swimming in huge puddles that formed on highways in the city.
Flights were cancelled or delayed at Barcelona Airport, La Vanguardia reported. Local rail services were also disrupted and football matches were cancelled.
