WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 4 /SRNA/ - U.S. President Donald Trump today announced the formation of a task force on superintelligence, tasked with ensuring that the United States plays a leading role in the development of artificial intelligence.
The U.S. newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that the White House was assembling a task force to prepare a report within 120 days on the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence, as well as to define the administration’s responsibilities in the sector.
The newspaper reported that the group, headed by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton, is tasked with ensuring Washington's leadership in the development of artificial intelligence.
“Following the White House’s historic agreement on superintelligence, I am announcing the formation of a superintelligence task force,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.
According to the U.S. president, Clayton, along with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson and other senior officials, will hold leadership positions in the group to ensure that the United States continues to play a leading role globally in the field of superintelligence.
At the end of last month, Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to refer to artificial intelligence as superintelligence.
