JAKARTA, JUNE 12 /SRNA/ - Three active volcanoes in eastern Indonesia have erupted, throwing ash columns up to 500 meters into the air, the Geological Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced.

Eruptions occurred early this morning in a short period at Mount Dukono in North Halmahera, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores, and Mount Ibu in West Halmahera.

The Dukono volcano spewed a thick column of ash about 500 meters above its northwest-moving crater. The Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano spewed ash about 400 meters above its summit. The Ibu volcano has also thrown out an ash cloud 400 meters high, which is moving towards the west.

Indonesia is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and has more than 120 active volcanoes, which makes it one of the most volcanically active countries in the world, Xinhua reports.
