BOGOTA, AUGUST 12 /SRNA/ – Colombian authorities have declared three days of national mourning for the victims of a powerful earthquake that killed at least 250 people.

The decree was signed by President Abelardo de la Esprielja.

The national flag will be flying at half-mast on government buildings throughout the country, as well as at Colombian embassies and consulates abroad during the mourning period.

An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale struck Colombia on the morning of August 10, with its epicenter near the town of San José del Palmar in the Chocó region.

The tremors were felt across much of Colombia and in neighbouring countries. According to media reports, at least 250 people lost their lives.
