TEHRAN, JUNE 20 /SRNA–RIA Novosti/ – Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz to shipping in response to continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon and U.S. violation of a memorandum of understanding on a ceasefire, the operational headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces announced.
“In view of the clear violation of American promises and the failure to implement the first point of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war, as well as the continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is hereby announced,” the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement carried by Iranian state television.
The statement added that Tehran would take further measures to compel Israel to fulfill its obligations if it continues military operations in Lebanon.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance denied in an interview with Fox News that there is any evidence that Iran is actually closing the Strait of Hormuz.
