TEHRAN AND MUSCAT AGREE ON COORDINATES FOR SHIPPING ROUTE THROUGH THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ

DUBAI, AUGUST 5 /SRNA-Reuters/ - Iran and Oman have reached an agreement on the geographical coordinates of the shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, and a joint statement is in the final stages of preparation, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said.

Baghaei added that such an agreement between Iran and Oman alone would not guarantee security in this strategically important shipping route.

The proposed agreement would give Tehran control over vessels entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian source and two regional officials said, describing it as one of the biggest concessions to Iran so far.

Despite the apparent step towards accepting Iran's demands, the same sources rejected US President Donald Trump's claims that an agreement on reopening the strait was close to being concluded, saying that important details still needed to be agreed.
