STOCKHOLM, OCTOBER 20 /SRNA/ – Swedish music streaming platform Spotify has removed 50 million AI-generated tracks from its recommendation system this year.

The company said the move was aimed at curbing unwanted content and abuse linked to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology.

In a post on its blog, For the Record, Spotify said it had also removed more than 75 million tracks from the platform for serious or repeated violations of its rules.

Experts analyzed tracks that listeners most frequently skipped, ignored or did not want to hear. The analysis showed that such tracks were often identified as unnecessary content or spam.

Spotify said it combines several indicators to detect unwanted content, including listener engagement, upload patterns, metadata and tools developed by other companies to identify AI-generated content.

The platform has verified more than 300,000 artists, whose profiles account for more than 99 per cent of user searches. More than 70 per cent of these artists are independent musicians.

Spotify has also introduced an "AI Persona" label for thousands of virtual artists. Their profiles have been excluded from algorithmic recommendations unless users specifically subscribe to them.

Spotify said it was the only major streaming platform to label AI-generated artists. Last year, it removed more than 75 million tracks in just 12 months.
