VALENCIA, OCTOBER 20 /SRNA/ - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit Valencia today to personally assess the damage caused by Storm Adam, which has claimed five lives.
The storm has begun to subside after causing severe flooding in eastern Spain, Euronews reported.
The Civil Guard has evacuated more than 2,100 people and rescued nearly 500 in the Valencia area since the severe weather began, according to the latest reports released by the force.
The town of Oliva is among the worst-hit areas, with 600 liters of rainfall per square meter recorded within 24 hours. Around 600 people received assistance at a municipal center, where 400 spent the night.
More than 1,300 Civil Guard personnel have been deployed to deal with the aftermath of the storm, supported by helicopters, boats and specialized water and mountain rescue units.
Although rainfall has eased in the Valencia region and the stay-at-home order has been lifted, the State Meteorological Agency has maintained weather alerts in nine provinces.
The situation is being closely monitored, particularly in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
