MADRID, JULY 24 /SRNA/ - The Spanish Government has deployed all available resources in the fight against wildfires that have devastated thousands of hectares and threatened homes not only across Spain but also in neighbouring countries, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said.
"The Government will stand by you throughout the emergency and the recovery process," Sanchez wrote on X.
He thanked firefighters, the Military Emergency Unit, security forces, civil protection workers and other emergency services battling the flames.
Spain has declared a national emergency in the Madrid region and across the province of Ávila after around 10,000 people were evacuated.
In neighbouring France, around 12,000 people have fled a wildfire in Gironde, and President Emmanuel Macron requested assistance through the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism.
Meanwhile, around 6,000 emergency service workers have been deployed across Sicily due to some 50 active fires on the island.
