RYANAIR LOSES £3 MILLION DUE TO FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ - Ryanair canceled 260 flights, resulting in an immediate loss of between £2.5 million and £3 million /$3.38 million to $4.06 million/, the company's CEO Michael O`Leary told Reuters.

"We are probably talking about a loss of around five or six million or something like that," O`Leary said.

He added that another 30 flights were expected to be canceled today because crews were "in the wrong places and working the wrong hours".

A major air traffic control failure disrupted air traffic at airports across the country.

Flight-tracking website Flightradar24 said that 1,300 flights were canceled in the United Kingdom yesterday after NATS experienced a system failure.

NATS provides air traffic control services at 15 airports in the United Kingdom.

Tens of thousands of passengers were affected by the disruption, which continued to a lesser extent today, with further cancellations and delays expected as airlines deal with the consequences at airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted.
