POPE LEO CONDEMNS EUTHANASIA AS FALSE COMPASSION

PARIS, SERPTEMBER 27 /SRNA/ - Pope Leo XIV condemned all forms of euthanasia during a visit to the French pilgrimage town of Lourdes and appealed to doctors and other healthcare workers to care for suffering patients rather than end their lives.

"We must reject the temptation to cause death under the guise of false compassion. It is impossible to regard causing death as something normal," the Pope said, stressing that what is legal is not necessarily moral.

He said no one had the right to make decisions about life based on laboratory algorithms.

The Pope criticized legal frameworks regulating euthanasia in various European countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, DPA reported.

France's National Assembly also passed a law on assisted dying this year after a lengthy debate.
