OPPOSITION CALLS FOR TRUMP-STYLE DIESEL DEAL WITH RUSSIA

BERLIN, OCTOBER 12 /SRNA/ - Two German opposition parties have called for the restoration of economic ties with Russia, following the example of US President Donald Trump, who reached a diesel deal with Moscow, RT reported.

The Alternative for Germany /AfD/ and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance /BSW/, which together hold a majority in the parliament of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, are preparing a joint resolution calling for the lifting of sanctions against Russia and the end of financial support for Kyiv, arguing that Chancellor Friedrich Merz's policies are placing an additional burden on the economy.

"While Merz is destroying Germany with sanctions and expensive liquefied natural gas, Trump is pursuing realpolitik," AfD co-leader Alice Weidel said, accusing Merz of undermining the German economy through sanctions and imports of expensive liquefied natural gas.

BSW deputy parliamentary group leader Claudia Wittig described fuel prices at German petrol stations as scandalous, arguing that the sanctions failed completely and are primarily harming Germany itself.

"Berlin should go beyond a one-off fuel deal and resume regular imports of Russian oil and gas to help German industry recover," Wittig said.

The initiative followed Trump's agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, October 9, to ease the global diesel shortage. Washington subsequently suspended sanctions on Russian diesel exports, enabling Russia to supply hundreds of thousands of tons of fuel to the international market.
