BUDAPEST, AUGUST 10 /SRNA – Reuters/ – One turbine at the Paks nuclear power plant has been restarted following a rise in the level of the Danube River.

The Danube’s water level fell to a record low in recent weeks due to a prolonged heatwave and drought that affected much of Europe, forcing the power plant to operate at less than 10 percent of capacity.

This summer’s drought has caused major problems for electricity generation, river transport and public health systems across Europe, with the economic damage already estimated at hundreds of billions of Euros.
