NAZI WARSHIPS EMERGE FROM THE DANUBE AS WATER LEVELS HIT RECORD LOWS

MOSCOW, August 3 /SRNA/ – Several sunken Nazi warships from the Second World War, unexploded ordnance, and the mummified remains of a prehistoric animal have re-emerged from the Danube River due to an intense heatwave and record-low water levels, Russia Today reported.

Photographs and videos shared on social media show the large wrecks of Second World War-era warships lying in shallow water and on a sandbank near the Serbian village of Prahovo.

Elsewhere, near the Croatian village of Opatovac, the wreck of a Hungarian cargo ship that sank in 1937 has also reappeared.

In the northern Bulgarian village of Ryahovo, the receding waters exposed the mummified remains of a mammoth, an animal that became extinct approximately 10,000 years ago.

Near Margaret Bridge in Budapest, a German artillery shell dating from the Second World War was discovered.

The Hungarian National Meteorological Service said that the water level of the Danube in Budapest had fallen to a record low of 23 centimetres. The previous record low of 33 centimetres was recorded in 2018.

According to data from the European Investment Bank, the bed of the Danube may contain around 200 sunken vessels.
