NARYSHKIN: RISK OF LARGE-SCALE CONFLICT IN EUROASIAN SPACE

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 4 /SRNA/ - Russian Foreign Intelligence Service /SVR/ Director Sergei Naryshkin said that a risk of large-scale conflict in Eurasia is real.

"The risk of a large-scale conflict breaking out across Eurasia is quite real and causes extremely serious concerns. According to our information, European leaders believe in controlled escalation and a strategy of brinkmanship developed by Western intelligence agencies in the past century," Naryshkin said at a meeting of the heads of security agencies and Intelligence services of the CIS member states.

In addition, Naryshkin noted that European society, which he described as "too spoiled and perverted," is not ready for a full-scale war with Russia.

"European politicians and interest groups are using the myth of the threat from the East to sharply increase military spending, redirect industry towards military production and modernize the army, as well as road and port infrastructure," Naryshkin noted at the 22nd meeting of the Conference of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the Commonwealth of Independent States near St. Petersburg.
