PARIS, JUNE 29 /SRNA/ - Health officials in France have registered around 1,000 deaths in five days, due to the most intense heat wave in the last two decades, Russia Today reports.
Temperatures in many areas of France reached 40 degrees Celsius, and Tuesday, June 23, was the hottest day in the country since 2003.
The State Agency for Public Health announced that people over 65 years old make up 85 percent of the deaths since June 24.
Several major events in Paris have been canceled due to the heat wave, and hospitals and morgues in Paris are overcrowded.
Some politicians have accused the French government of being unprepared for the crisis caused by the heatwave.
