MILAN AIRPORT NAMED AFTER BERLUSCONI

MILAN, SEPTEMBER 25 /SRNA/ - Milan's airport, the second-busiest passenger airport in Italy, has been named after the recently deceased former prime minister and businessman from the city Silvio Berlusconi, AP reported.

The report said that a silver-colored commemorative plaque was unveiled at the airport during the ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini and members of Berlusconi's family.

The decision to name the airport after him faced opposition when it was announced in 2024, both from part of the public and from the Milan City Administration, which filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the airport from being named after the controversial former prime minister.

Berlusconi faced numerous investigations, but most of them were closed without charges. The investigations concerned parties he hosted, attended by underage girls, as well as his business dealings.

Berlusconi was born and raised in Milan, where he built his media empire and owned the Milan football club. He also died in the city in 2023, at the age of 86.
