MEPs PUSH TO SCRAP SEASONAL TIME CHANGES

STRASBOURG, OCTOBER 21 /SRNA/ – Members of the European Parliament from the European People's Party /EPP/ are gathering support to end the twice-yearly clock changes.

Peter Liese, an EPP member from Germany's Christian Democratic Union /CDU/, secured the backing of 44 MEPs from 15 countries and six political groups for a joint letter to EU ministers calling for the abolition of the seasonal time change.

"Citizens have waited long enough. We no longer need years of debate. We need a decision," Liese told EU transport ministers, who are due to meet on October 29.

The German politician blamed transport ministers for freezing a 2018 proposal to end the annual clock changes, despite a majority of respondents supporting the measure.

He said the failure to act was irresponsible and showed that problems raised by people across Europe were often caused not by institutions, but by the officials responsible in EU member states.
