MEMA: EUROPEAN COMMISSION SHOULD RETURN FROZEN RUSSIAN ASSETS

HELSINKI, AUGUST 6 /SRNA/ – Returning frozen assets to Russian citizens would facilitate a ceasefire and create conditions for establishing peace in Ukraine, Finnish politician and member of the Libertarian Party Armando Mema said.

"The European Commission has decided to allocate €1.7 billion to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets. This decision was made immediately after the recent strikes carried out on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine," Mema posted on X.

He specified that the Commission has so far allocated a total of €8 billion to Ukraine from funds derived from frozen Russian assets.

"This is theft. At the same time it shows that the European Union is facing increasing difficulties in securing money to continue the war in Ukraine, resorting to borrowing again and again," the Finnish politician stressed.

According to Mema, such a strategy cannot lead to a resolution of the conflict.

"The European Commission should return frozen assets to Russia because doing so would pave the way for a ceasefire in Ukraine and provide valuable time for a return to diplomacy and efforts to find a way to end this conflict," Mema added.
