ROME, OCTOBER 5 /SRNA-Reuters/ - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has filed an application with the EU Intellectual Property Office to protect her voice and likeness from being falsely portrayed using artificial intelligence.
She filed the application today, according to the EU office's website, and it was also confirmed by the Italian Prime Minister's Office.
The application includes an audio recording of Meloni repeating the phrase "I am Giorgia Meloni" twice in Italian.
"I am Giorgia" is the title of Meloni's 2021 autobiography, inspired by a well-known declaration she made at a political rally in 2019, which even became a disco-style song.
Altered images of Meloni have appeared online on numerous occasions in recent years and are often shared as authentic, including a photograph showing her sitting on a bed wearing lingerie.
Meloni has condemned such material, saying it is part of efforts to spread fake news, and has urged users to verify the authenticity of such content before sharing it further online.
The application submitted to the EU Intellectual Property Office is still under consideration.
