WARSAW, OCTOBER 11 /SRNA/ – Polish police have arrested a man suspected of planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said, after earlier warning of a threat against Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
"Polish police have arrested a man who threatened and planned an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk," he posted on X, without providing further details.
In a separate post on X, Tusk thanked the police for their swift and decisive action.
Although violent crime is relatively rare in Poland, the country is deeply politically polarised and has faced security threats due to its proximity to the war in Ukraine.
In August, police detained a 23-year-old man accused of calling for the assassination of senior Polish politicians.
In 2024, Tusk said he had received threats following the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Interior Ministry spokesperson Karolina Gałecka said today that an email containing information about a potential attack had been forwarded to the police by the Government Protection Service, which is responsible for the security of ministers.
