BERLIN, SEPTEMBER 13 /SRNA/ – Polling stations have opened in the German state of Lower Saxony for local elections, a week after the right-wing Alternative for Germany /AfD/ made a historic breakthrough in Saxony-Anhalt.
Around 6.3 million voters are eligible to cast ballots for mayors, district administrators and local councils. Polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m.
In the 2021 local elections in Lower Saxony, the AfD won 4.6 per cent of the vote.
The elections will be followed by state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on September 20, DPA reported.
