LIMITED ATTENDANCE FOR STUDENTS WHO DO NOT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE

ROME, SEPTEMBER 24 /SRNA/ - The Italian Government today adopted a decree setting a limit on the number of students in each classroom with limited Italian language proficiency, and introducing a ban on face coverings.

The government of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the package of new measures is aimed at strengthening integration through language learning, AP reported.

Under the plan, no more than 30 percent of students with insufficient knowledge of Italian will be allowed to attend classes in any given classroom.

The limit is based on language proficiency, not nationality, and will also apply to students from other EU member states who do not speak Italian.

The government decree takes effect immediately, but it must be approved by Parliament within 60 days, where Meloni’s government holds a majority.
