BELGRADE, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA/ - A jersey worn and signed by former US basketball star Michael Jordan during the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14 million to Miami real estate investor Ron Firman.

It is the highest price ever paid for a piece of basketball sports memorabilia. The overall sports memorabilia record is held by a jersey worn by baseball legend Babe Ruth, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024, auction house Hunt Auctions said.

Jordan wore the red jersey in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz on June 5, 1998, when the Chicago Bulls won to level the series at 1-1 before going on to claim the championship in six games.

It was Jordan's sixth and final NBA championship, AP reported.

Hunt Auctions President David Hunt said Michael Jordan's importance in the sports collectibles market had reached a level comparable to that of renowned works of art.

Jerseys worn by Jordan during the 1998 Finals have already fetched multimillion-dollar prices. His Game 1 jersey sold for about $10.1 million in 2022, while his Game 3 jersey sold for $12.3 million last month.

The auction house said the jersey was originally purchased from the Chicago Bulls in 2003 and had changed hands only once since then.

Collectors have also shown strong interest in other items from Jordan's final season in Chicago.

A pair of shoes he wore in Game 2 of the Finals against Utah sold at Sotheby's in 2023 for $2.2 million, setting a record at the time for the most expensive sneakers ever sold at auction.
