HAMAS' CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER KILLED

JERUSALEM, SEPTEMBER 23 /SRNA/ - The head of the financial department of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip Mohammed Abu Alwan was killed in an Israeli military strike, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said.

The statement said that Alwan was targeted in a strike in the city of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

"We will not stop as long as Hamas exists in the Gaza Strip," the joint statement said.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA earlier reported that two people were killed in an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in Khan Younis, but it was unclear whether it was the same incident.

No information about the identities of the victims was released, DPA reported.

The situation in the Gaza Strip is an important issue in the campaign ahead of Israel's October 27 elections.
