GROWING NUMBER OF GERMANS SUPPORT AfD

BERLIN, SEPTEMBER 16 /SRNA/ - The Alternative for Germany /AfD/ party has recorded a significant increase in support recently, particularly following its convincing victory in the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on September 6, according to polling data from the YouGov and GMS agencies.

At the national level, current polls put the AfD in first place, with between 27 and 30 percent support.

Support is particularly strong in the eastern states, where backing for the AfD regularly exceeds 35 to 40 percent.

In Saxony-Anhalt, the party won 43.8 percent of the vote - more than double its result in the previous election - and became the strongest political force, although it did not secure an absolute majority.

The increase in popularity is taking place amid voter dissatisfaction with the economic situation, migration policy and the work of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government. Support for the ruling Christian Democratic Union has fallen to historic lows of 18 to 20 percent.
