GERMANY TO STRENGTHEN DEFENSES AGAINST DRONES

BERLIN, SEPTEMBER 6 /SRNA-Reuters/ — Germany is planning a broad package of measures to strengthen defense against drone attacks, cyber intrusions and other forms of sabotage after an attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport last month, Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported.

Berlin blamed Russia for the incident, while Moscow denied any involvement and described the accusations as anti-Russian activity.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the newspaper that hybrid attacks had become part of everyday reality and would become more frequent, but said Germany was capable of defending and protecting itself.

According to the newspaper, police capabilities for mobile drone defense will be expanded under the plan, with rapidly deployable anti-drone units to be stationed in cities.

These units would protect the airspace above key transport hubs and areas containing government facilities.

As the newspaper stated, the companies operating critical infrastructure, such as energy providers and defense equipment manufacturers, would be given legal authority not only to detect drones but also to reject them.

A nationwide shield would be set, including a network of digital sensors designed to detect and intercept attempted cyberattacks.

The text adds that the government also plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence technology, biometric facial recognition and video surveillance, for example at railway stations, to identify suspected attackers preparing acts of sabotage.
