FORMER MINISTER FACES ELECTRONIC MONITORING AND PUBLIC OFFICE BAN

PARIS, SEPTEMBER 28 /SRNA/ - French prosecutors are seeking two years of electronic monitoring and a five-year ban from holding public office for former culture minister Rachida Dati in a corruption trial linked to her dealings with the Renault-Nissan automotive group.

The court accuses Dati of receiving EUR 900,000 in legal fees from Renault-Nissan.

She is charged with corruption and lobbying on behalf of Renault-Nissan between October 2009 and February 2013, while serving as a member of the European Parliament.

Dati became an MEP after serving as justice minister between 2007 and 2009 in the administration of former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

She resigned as culture minister in February to focus on her bid to become mayor of Paris, but suffered a heavy defeat in March.

Emmanuel Gregoire became the new mayor of Paris, while Dati remained head of the 7th arrondissement.
