FIRST PATIENT TO SOON COMPLETE TREATMENT WITH PERSONALIZED CANCER VACCINE

MOSCOW, AUGUST 4 /SRNA/ – A man suffering from melanoma that has spread to his lymph nodes is expected to receive the final dose of a personalized cancer vaccine in early September, Alexander Gintsburg, director of Russia`s Gamaleya National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told Sputnik.

Gintsburg said the patient is a 60-year-old resident of Russia`s Kursk Region who received the first dose of the Neoonkovak vaccine in April, adding that all indicators so far suggest the treatment has been highly successful.

He added that by the end of this year, 20 patients are expected to receive the vaccine for skin cancer.

The cancer vaccine is individually developed for each patient based on the molecular and genetic characteristics of their tumor.

Russia`s Ministry of Health approved the clinical use of the mRNA cancer vaccine in December, while production is being carried out by the National Medical Research Radiological Centre.
