BARCELONA, JUNE 27 /SRNA/ – A 13-year-old British girl suffered a broken nose after a man punched her at the Santa Susanna hotel in Catalonia because she sat on his sun lounger.

Witnesses said that friends of the man who struck the girl also became involved in the incident, the New York Post reported.

The girl was taken to hospital, and after receiving medical treatment, she and her family were transferred to another resort.

Police were called to the scene, and according to hotel guests, officers and hotel staff told them they were "too frightened to remove a group of Spanish Roma" who allegedly caused the incident.

The incident is the latest escalation in the so-called "sun lounger wars," which have long been a problem at Spanish holiday resorts.

Tourists often compete early in the morning to secure the best spots by the pool.

Some hotels have attempted to curb the practice by introducing sticker systems, reservation apps, or time limits on reserving sun loungers.
