EPIDEMIC IN UGANDA ENDS, NUMBER OF CASES IN CONGO RISES

LONDON, AUGUST 26 /SRNA-Reuters/ - The Ebola outbreak in Uganda has ended, but the number of cases continues to rise in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said Marie-Roseline Belizaire, the World Health Organization’s /WHO/ Regional Director for Emergency Preparedness in Africa.

Belizaire said the number of cases in the DRC had surpassed 5,515 despite some progress.

She added that Uganda declared the outbreak over on July 28, but the WHO continued to monitor the situation until this week to ensure that no chains of virus transmission had been missed.
