EIGHT PEOPLE KILLED, 34 MISSING IN LANDSLIDE

BEIJING, JULY 17 /SRNA/ - Eight people have been killed, and 34 are reported missing in a landslide that buried residential buildings in the city of Chongqing in southwestern China, China Central Television reported.

The same source said that 10 people have been rescued from the disaster site.

Local media reported earlier that the landslide buried dozens of homes. A rescue operation is underway.

More than 1,100 residents living near the disaster area have been evacuated to safety.

Water, electricity and gas supplies have been temporarily suspended in the affected area.
