DRIVERS USE RAPESEED OIL INSTEAD OF DIESEL FUEL

FRANCE, SEPTEMBER 21 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - Some drivers in France have started using rapeseed oil as fuel for their diesel-powered cars amid record-high diesel prices, French media reported today.

According to BFMTV, a litre of rapeseed oil costs 1.53 euros, almost one euro less than diesel.

"Because of this price difference, the French are considering switching to a new type of fuel," BFMTV reports.

At the same time, other drivers are cautious and unwilling to take such a risk, fearing it could damage their engines. Rapeseed oil can damage the fuel injection system, and a fine of 200 euros may also be imposed.

The price of diesel in France reached a new record high of 2.41 euros per litre yesterday.
