DMITRIEV: AfD HUMILIATED MERZ'S GOVERNMENT IN ELECTION

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - The Alternative for Germany /AfD/ achieved a historic result in regional elections, humiliating the government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said Kirill Dmitriev, special presidential envoy and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

"The historic victory of the AfD humiliates the arrogance, narrow-mindedness, warmongering, incompetence and hypocrisy of Germany's discredited ruling coalition," Dmitriev posted on X.

He added that Germans had spoken out and that Germany had awakened.

"Humiliated Merz has just become Keir Starmer," Dmitriev remarked, referring to the former British prime minister who was removed earlier this year after his party lost popularity.

According to exit polls commissioned by the ARD and ZDF television networks, the AfD won a decisive victory in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, receiving 44.5 percent of the vote, TASS reported.

This is the party’s best result in any German state in its history.

The Christian Democratic Union of Germany came second, losing half of its support compared with 2021.

The party won just 18.5 percent, its worst result in Saxony-Anhalt.
