DEATH TOLL AFTER FERRY CAPSIZES RISES TO 37

HARARE, AUGUST 12 /SRNA/ - The death toll after a ferry capsized on a large lake in Zimbabwe has risen to 37, officials said.

A local official told The Herald newspaper that another 24 bodies had since been recovered from the water.

The National Disaster Management Agency said 77 people had been rescued, while 27 remain missing.

Zimbabwe’s Civil Protection Unit said there were 114 adult passengers on board, in addition to five crew members, based on the number of tickets sold.

Officials said an unknown number of children below the ticket-paying age were also on board.
